It looks damn pretty, tho, did I already mention that? Like really, really good. It plays like BioShock is basically what I'm saying. The game looses a lot of its retro charme in Unreal, tho, with the updated music sounding actually ok compared to System Shock, the level colors looking a little more 'normal' and not as vibrant and the whole mechanics and feel leaning heavily towards modern shooter instead of what was basically an action-roleplaying-looting game. With the exception of cyberspace, as we can all agree. Playing through the Enhanced Edition of System Shock basically every other month I can confidently say that the modernisation makes the game quite a bit easier simply due to not having to fight the controls as much, although that got better with time and practice in the Enhanced Edition. You could still get that older demo off the internet as well if you're so inclined. There was a demo in the Unity ( iirc ) engine about 2,5 years ago - before they switched to Unreal - which was also fine, but felt a bit more clunky. They added inventory management with limited carrying capacity like SS2 had, gave ( pretty looking and loooong ) animations to your consumables, implemented different hacking minigames and, of course, a modern control scheme. The demo of the new System Shock version that dropped a few weeks ago looks mighty fine and plays really nicely as well.
